Teaching adorable Thai kids

Last night I was so determined to be strong-minded. Mind over matter, right? So I've got my eyes closed and am nodding off when I hear a gecko. They always sound like they're right there, so I didn't think much. But I looked up, and it was actually in the room this time, on the wall above my head. Then it got on my bed. Yeah, I wasn't bout to sleep in my bed like that. So I slept above Steph. Definitely not a great night of sleep, but oh well. Today there was a gecko dead outside our door, being swarmed and eaten by ants. Ew.
Today we spent the morning getting ready for our teaching today. We had to go scavenging for rocks that the kids could use to paint faces on. Finding rocks here is a real struggle, actually, but we succeeded. I took a little nap before lunch. After lunch we headed to the school to teach the kids. They were grades 3-6. There were about 42 kids, and they were adorable. We got to introduce ourselves in Thai and English: "Hello, my name is Martha. Sa wat dee kha. Chan chue Pii Martha." Then we separated them into two groups. One group learned how to say "Hi, my name is ______. What is your name?" They traced their hands and decorated them with a popsicle stick frame. The other group learned "How are you? I am happy/sad/angry." Their craft was to paint a rock with a face on it. It was so much fun to hang out with them. There were some darling kids there. Some of the young girls spoke lots more English than I thought. One of them yelled at me, "Sit down!" Haha they were teaching me the Thai words for colors and glue and such. Afterwards, they played duck-duck-goose. The head is the kind of sacred here, so they duck-ducked on the shoulders. They were sooo funny to watch. When we left, they all said "goodbye" and shook hands with us. Seeing little kids do the "wai"/Thai bow is soooo adorable. They all ran after our songtaew as well--ran for ages! We were all so sad to leave. That experience definitely made atleast some of the bugs worth it lol.
Janella and I are researching the Thai beaches and islands to decide which one we want to go to when we're done here. We finish June 11th and fly out of Bangkok on the 16th. They have some incredible beaches here. Should be great :)
