So yesterday when we came home for a rest in the air conditioned room, we both fell asleep. For 5 1/2 hours. Haha we woke up at 10:30 at night. I was so disoriented. I remember slightly waking when it was dark and hearing crazy-loud rain and thunder, and thinking, "Wow, it's raining in the middle of the night. Hope it stops for morning." Yeah, it was definitely more like 7 o'clock in the evening.
Anyway, still adjusting to that. I didn't sleep til about 3:30 again. This morning we woke up and had breakfast and such. Then another monsoon started lol. I couldn't believe how hard the rain was pounding. We waited til that died down and then called a cab to take us to our new hostel. The front-desk guy and girl at Khaosan Baan Thai were sooo nice. Apparently they tried calling cabs for us, but noone could come (?), so the man actually walked all the way to the main road to get us a cab. A Barbie pink one, of course :)
We very trustingly left our stuff (laptop included) in the "luggage room" aka common room of NapPark Hostel. Our friendly tuk-tuk driver never showed, so we got another tuk-tuk to take us to Chatuchak Market. It was pretty far! It kinda has to be, though, since it takes up 53 acres of Bangkok! It's absolutely ENORMOUS. They have everything; and a ton of it. We walked for hours and didn't even scratch the surface of that place. We did get some mango sticky rice (a daily essential), and then we found a little booth with flavored shaved ice and toppings. I got Mix Berry (39 baht) and Nella got Merry Melon or something lol. I enjoyed it--it wasn't sunny out, but it was really muggy from the rain, and still hot. Nella also got some things we assumed were doughnut holes. Not so. They seemed to be sweet and similar to doughnut holes on the outside, but they had some spicy mush in the middle lol. Weird. Seriously we saw soooo much food at the market, and I had no idea what 90% of it was. I did, however, recognize fried grasshoppers, crickets, maggots, and cockroaches. Maybe someday I'll have the guts to try those...not maggots. Not cockroach. Possibly grasshopper. We also got a caricature done. 200 baht ($6) for one of us together. Doesn't really look like us, but oh well! lol
We walked some more, saw a TON of fish--any fish you could ever want--and then got a tuk-tuk to take us back to Khao San Road. What a place. We decided it's like Times Square + Canal Street, Asia style. Lots of tourists there. I bought some headbands, a purse (I've bought so many of those, all for 100baht each aka $3), and some cool Thai pants I also bought the flags of every country I've been to--I'm gonna make something with those, maybe a bag or something. Nella the massage-aholic got a foot massage, a Swedish massage, and a facial lol. And because my roots growing out was driving me crazy, I got my hair dyed! lol Random! Blonde's too much upkeep. The color I got is really dark, actually. But it's good. During my hairdying experience, a French guy came in for a pedicure (hahaha). So I got to chat with him in French. I'm sooo rusty. And Spanish words would come to my head at many points. But it was good to talk to a Frenchie. There are so many Brits here, it's crazy.
I love doing business here. Always a bow and "Sawadee ka" and always always "Kop khun ka" and a bow at the end. So polite. We ate at McDonald's on Khao San Road. I got a Samurai Pork Burger meal--116baht. McDonald's is always such a comfort--it's everywhere you go.
Anyway, that was our Khao San experience. We're both dead beat since we didn't nap today lol. This hostel is pretty chill...lots more social than the last. It's really nice. Too bad we're on the 4th floor--so many stairs.
Anyway, Thailand is such an amazing place. I really really love it. I wish everyone could have the Thai experience.
